Quick Start

Your First Ride Checklist

Battery & Charging

Your battery ships partially charged. Before your first ride:

  • Charge fully (4–6 hours)
  • Use only the included charger
  • Store between 20–80% for longevity
  • Charge indoors at room temperature

Pedal Assist Levels

Bosch systems:

  • ECO — Light assist, max range
  • TOUR — Balanced everyday riding
  • SPORT — Responsive acceleration
  • TURBO — Maximum power

Shimano STEPS:

  • ECO — Efficiency mode
  • TRAIL — Balanced riding
  • BOOST — Maximum assist

Journey PRO (EP8) owners can customise assist levels via the E-TUBE PROJECT app. EP6 and EP5 require the SW-EN600-L wireless switch upgrade for app access.

Pre-Ride Check

Quick safety checks before each ride:

  • Tire pressure (check sidewall for range)
  • Brakes engage before lever touches bar
  • Battery locked in place
  • Display powers on
  • No loose fasteners (bounce test)

Start in a Lower Assist Mode

Begin in ECO or TOUR to get familiar with the motor response. The power is smooth but substantial — give yourself time to adapt to the acceleration.

Maximise Your Range

Use lower assist levels on flat terrain, shift to easier gears before stopping, and maintain steady pedalling. Cold weather reduces range temporarily — this is normal.

Battery Longevity

Avoid storing at 0% or 100% for extended periods. The sweet spot is 20–80%. If storing for winter, charge to ~50% and check monthly.

Schedule Your First Service

Book a tune-up around 500 km or 3 months — whichever comes first. This initial check catches cable stretch and brake bedding adjustments.
